Life Death and the Universe... does it really equal 42?

Many of us have recently stepped into the world of Accident Forensics ultimately searching for answers to Why? How? What? and When? incidents have occured. It is human nature to seek out answers to the unknown and for some of us it is a never ending search; the type of questioning and internal reasoning that keeps us lying awake at night pondering possibilities that sometimes feel just out of reach. We tell ourselves if only we keep learning, keep studying, keep exploring, keep asking, then eventually we will find the 'ANSWER'. The problem is do we really know the question? For any of you who have read the Hitch Hikers guide to the Galaxy you will relate to my topic title :)

My personal dilemma lies in looking for multiple answers to multiple complex situations simultaneously, and I am rarely able to clear my mind and focus on the task at hand. I don't think I have watched a DVD at home for the past four or five years without my laptop on, the paper by my side and an unopened pile of mail to review! And just who invented multiple tab openings! Whilst writing this (or any other assessment) I keep my email open so that I am instantly aware of incoming messages; of course I also have my email linked to my phone so that I won't miss that important message informing me I have just won 2000 000 in the African lottery, if I should need to step away from my computer! I also regularly click on my open Facebook tab to ensure that nothing has happened in the lives of my friends in the past five minutes that I wasn't immediately aware of.. I actually logged into my Facebook this morning with the absolute intent of deactivating my account only to find like an addicted junkie I just need to keep it open a bit longer... The same can be said of my LinkedIn account.. the budget spreadsheet tab I keep open in case I have a last minute epiphany of a forgotten expense (not a saving, never a saving..) and Skype, always Skype.

It isn't as though I have all the time in the world either! I am a single mother of four awesome young lads between the ages of 14 and 20, hold down a full time job as a Senior Inspector with WHSQ, do some casual shifts for CQNursing, partly because any income that will feed the brood is a bonus, and partly because I love community nursing care. I am also painstakingly holding onto my 6.2 GPA and coveting each and any course outside of Uni that I can reasonably access!

So the question people often ask me is HOW do I do it all? The question I am currently asking myself is WHY?? If the answer really is 42 then I figure I have about 3.5yrs to get there, when suddenly all the lights will come on and the solution will be right there in front of me.

The only thing I need to do now is find the question.

  1. Oh dear Tammy ... were you looking over my shoulder, plucking the thoughts from my mind? ... I so totally 'get' the space you describe!!! :) - if the 'real' answer is 42, then I truly haven't found the right question!!! :)

  2. You are a stayer Tammy to do what you have done is fantastic and as I do know you from many subjects we have encountered together and had many up and downs with these subjects as well. The finish line is close and hope you get there before this number 42 as I have missed that one I would need to target 50. Will we get this done? my money is on yes.
